7th Grade Music Concert at LHS Junior High Well the big night has arrived after many hours of practice. Joan Duffy with her clarinet in hand (thought she was going to be the next Benny Goodman) and Dee Reinhardt with her violin are ready to make their debut into the music world!
The night was a success but Joan did not go on with her career, but Dee did continue on and also played the clarinet in the marching band in high school. Each Memorial Day the band would play in the town parade and our houses were on the parade route. The families would all be out cheering the band on as they went past . Dee was so excited to see us cheering her on she did not realize the band stopped and she walked right into the person in front of her! Needless to say, her music career did not leave LHS. It was a full day trip starting at 8:30 am for a bus ride into Wall Street. We arrived for the opening bell, took a tour around the stock market all the while thinking of what we were doing for lunch! Mr. Mazzone had made arrangements for us to have lunch at the Rosevelt Hotel where Xavier Cugat was hosting a radio show with his band! (Yes, I did say radio show!) The lunch and show were great! A few if us even got to be on the show! Of course when we got back to LHS we had to write a report on our trip to Wall Street leaving out the best part of the trip since it was not considered the educational part! At the meeting place, we would play ball, jump rope, play hopscotch and draw hearts with whomever we “loved” at the time. Of course, what we really hoped for was for the “boys” to come around so we could flirt with them! The main man was Arthur Errickson since he also lived only a few houses from Harrison School. It was a fun time with lots of memories to go along with the “steps”. Submitted by Joan Duffy Schroeder
